Coordinated Care Expanding Coverage to Serve More Washingtonians

Date: 07/01/24

As of July 1, 2024, eligibility for Apple Health (Medicaid) coverage expanded. For those 19 and older living in Washington, who are ineligible for other federal assistance due to their immigration status, there is a new option.

This program from the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) is called Apple Health Expansion and is a result of the State Legislature allocating funding to cover 13,000 lives—a significant step to ensuring all Washingtonians have health coverage.

Apple Health Expansion is a Medicaid equivalent coverage for uninsured undocumented adults, with income up to 138% of the federal poverty rate. Much like Apple Health (Medicaid) there are no out-of-pocket costs or copays for enrollees, and it provides both physical and behavioral health coverage.

"We are pleased to see Washington expand coverage options to additional people across the state regardless of their immigration status. Apple Health Expansion will provide more communities with the opportunity to achieve their full health potential," said Coordinated Care Senior Medical Director & Chief Health Equity Officer, Dr. Usha Sankrithi. "This expansion means more people that were previously uninsured, underinsured, or who experienced significant burdens paying monthly premiums for a health plan now have access to no cost coverage."

Coordinated Care is proud to offer this coverage statewide to individuals eligible for Apple Health Expansion, in addition to our traditional Medicaid and foster care coverage statewide. Coordinated Care also offers extensive Marketplace coverage across the state with our Ambetter from Coordinated Care plans, in addition to Medicare options.

While the enrollment limit has been met for Apple Health Expansion, individuals are still encouraged to complete their application to be considered when space becomes available in the program.
